IPL 2026 Full Schedule Released MI vs CSK and RCB to Clash Twice in League Stage

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially released the full league stage schedule for IPL 2026, setting up multiple high-profile clashes. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will face arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings twice this season, along with two encounters against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The 19th edition of the tournament is set to begin on March 28, with RCB taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match.

BCCI Adjusts Format To Enable Big Matches

In a significant change, the BCCI has tweaked the tournament format to ensure more blockbuster clashes during the league stage. Previously, teams played twice against sides in their own group and once against teams from the other group.

For IPL 2026, this structure has been reversed. Teams will now face opponents within their group once and play twice against teams from the opposite group. This change has allowed marquee fixtures like MI vs CSK and MI vs RCB to be scheduled twice.

Key Fixtures To Watch This Season

The much-anticipated clashes between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are scheduled for April 23 in Mumbai and May 2 in Chennai. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12 in Mumbai and May 10 in Raipur.

These fixtures are expected to be among the biggest attractions of the season, given the history and rivalry between the teams.

Group Division For IPL 2026

The teams have once again been divided into two groups based on their title wins.

Group A includes Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings.

Group B features Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.

Match Distribution And Venues

A total of 20 matches will be played between March 28 and April 12, including a double-header Sunday. The remaining 50 matches are scheduled between April 13 and May 24 across 12 venues in India.

Raipur has been added as a secondary home venue for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where they will play two matches. Dharamsala also returns to the IPL calendar, hosting a match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings on May 11.

Afternoon Match Imbalance Highlighted

This season will feature 12 afternoon matches, with each team playing at least two. However, there is a noticeable imbalance in scheduling.

While most teams will host at least one afternoon game, Rajasthan Royals are the only side to play both their afternoon matches away from home. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will host two afternoon fixtures.

Additionally, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play three afternoon matches each, whereas the remaining teams will feature in two.

Playoff Schedule Yet To Be Announced

While the league stage schedule has been confirmed, the dates and venues for the playoffs are yet to be announced. However, reports suggest that the IPL 2026 final is likely to take place on May 31.

With multiple high-voltage clashes and a revised format, IPL 2026 promises to deliver an exciting and competitive season for fans across the globe.
