The Mummy Returns Re-Release Box Office: North America Push Targets 3 Iconic Films by Nolan & Cameron

Universal Pictures has announced a special 25th-anniversary theatrical re-release of The Mummy Returns in North America, bringing Brendan Fraser’s beloved adventure sequel back to cinemas on March 27, 2026, nearly a quarter-century after its original debut.

The 2001 action-fantasy sequel, which originally grossed roughly $202 million domestically, is now setting its sights on surpassing the North American box office tallies of several acclaimed films by blockbuster directors Christopher Nolan and James Cameron.

Eyeing Interstellar, Terminator 2 & Batman Begins

As things stand, The Mummy Returns sits close to, but just behind, the domestic totals of three genre heavyweights:

• Interstellar – around $203.2 million
• Terminator 2: Judgment Day – around $205.9 million
• Batman Begins – about $206.9 million

With its current domestic total at about $202 million, the re-release could, with even a moderate boost from its anniversary run, push The Mummy Returns past at least one of these iconic titles in North America.

A Nostalgic Return to Theaters

Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser alongside Rachel Weisz, the film continues the globe-trotting adventures of Rick and Evelyn O’Connell as they battle ancient evils in Egypt.
