German cinema is experiencing a massive resurgence on the global stage. According to recent data from German Films, the national agency for the international promotion of German cinema, the worldwide box office revenue for German productions outside of their home territory more than doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year.

From high-stakes dramas to family-friendly animations, German stories are resonating with international audiences at an unprecedented rate, signaling a new “Golden Era” for the country’s film exports.

The Numbers: A Record-Breaking Year

The statistics for 2024 reveal a striking upward trajectory for German productions abroad:

• Global Revenue: German films (both majority and minority productions) generated a staggering €116 million in revenue outside of Germany.
• Majority Productions: 270 majority German titles earned €53.5 million, a massive jump from the €31.7 million recorded in 2023.
