Ranveer Singh and Yash
The much-anticipated March 19 box office clash between Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge and Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is still weeks away, but the competition has already begun in overseas markets. Early advance bookings in the United States suggest that Ranveer Singh’s spy thriller sequel currently holds an advantage over Yash’s action drama.
Headlined by Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 has posted encouraging numbers in its initial round of US pre-sales. According to data reported by Sacnilk, the film had generated approximately $33,723 in advance bookings in the United States as of March 1.
Trade figures indicate that nearly 1,953 tickets have been sold across 209 shows in 151 theatres. With additional shows expected to open closer to release week, the film’s early momentum appears promising.
The sequel benefits from the massive success of its predecessor, which grossed over ₹1300 crore worldwide and earned around $21 million in North America alone. The makers had planned the sequel well in advance, carving it out as a continuation of the original story — a move that seems to have amplified anticipation among overseas audiences.
On the other hand, Yash’s Toxic has had a comparatively modest start in the US market. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film has so far opened bookings for around 122 shows in 81 theatres. Early sales stand at approximately $3,665 from 189 tickets sold for premiere screenings.
However, trade analysts caution against drawing firm conclusions at this stage. Toxic’s full show slate in North America has not yet been rolled out, and theatre counts are expected to increase significantly in the coming days.
Yash’s previous blockbuster, KGF: Chapter 2, earned close to $7 million in North America, and his fan base has only expanded since then. This adds an element of unpredictability to the upcoming clash.
Dhurandhar 2 continues its espionage-driven storyline, featuring a star-studded ensemble including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, set against an intense geopolitical backdrop.
Toxic, meanwhile, is positioned as a stylized and gritty action entertainer, with Yash reportedly portraying multiple shades in the film. The cast also includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth.
For now, overseas advance sales suggest that Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 has the upper hand in the United States. That said, with Indian bookings yet to commence and additional international screens still to open, the real battle is only just beginning.
As March 19 approaches, this high-profile showdown promises to be one of the most closely watched box office contests of the year.
