New-Gen Hyundai i20
The upcoming Hyundai i20 has been spotted undergoing tests in international markets, revealing significant updates to its cabin design. The latest spy images, reportedly captured in Scandinavia during cold-weather testing, provide a closer look at the refreshed interior layout and new technology features expected in the next-generation model.
One of the biggest highlights inside the new i20 appears to be a curved dual-display arrangement. The setup is expected to integrate a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen along with a matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, giving the cabin a more modern and premium feel.
Currently, the i20 in India offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen in higher variants and an 8-inch unit in mid-spec trims. The shift to a larger, seamlessly integrated curved display would mark a major upgrade in terms of technology and visual appeal.
The test mule also reveals a redesigned steering wheel, which may feature the four-dot design representing the letter “H” in Morse code — a styling element seen in newer Hyundai models.
The dashboard layout appears to have been revised, although camouflage hides finer details. A new interior theme and updated upholstery materials are also expected. These updates are similar to the changes recently introduced in the Hyundai Venue, and a similar cockpit layout is likely to be seen in the upcoming facelift of the Hyundai Verna.
The next-gen i20 could offer enhanced safety features, possibly including a 360-degree surround-view camera. Reports suggest that Hyundai may introduce a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, similar to what is available in the new Venue.
Even the current i20 already comes equipped with a strong safety package that includes six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM), rear parking sensors, a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, a dashcam and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
While the recent spy shots focus on the interior, earlier test vehicles indicate that the exterior will also receive notable styling revisions. The new-generation i20 is expected to adopt a more angular and slightly crossover-inspired design language in line with Hyundai’s global styling philosophy.
The front fascia could feature a full-width LED light bar, sharper headlamps and top-mounted LED daytime running lights. The grille design is likely to shift from the current cascading style to a more rectangular layout with slatted elements.
The side profile may receive new alloy wheel designs and a revised rear quarter window shape. At the back, the hatchback could sport connected tail lamps and a more sculpted rear bumper for a stronger road presence.
In international markets, Hyundai may introduce a hybrid powertrain option for the new-generation i20. However, in India, the hatchback is expected to continue with the existing 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 83 PS with a 5-speed manual gearbox and 88 PS with the iVT transmission. Torque output stands at 114.7 Nm.
The sportier Hyundai i20 N Line variant will likely retain its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
With upgraded cabin technology, potential ADAS features and refreshed styling, the new-generation Hyundai i20 is shaping up to be a more premium offering in the competitive hatchback segment.
