BSA Motorcycles has officially launched the Scrambler 650 in India, expanding its portfolio in the mid-size motorcycle segment. Based on the Gold Star 650 platform, the new Scrambler brings revised styling, updated hardware and a more off-road-focused setup.
Here are the top highlights of the new Scrambler 650.
652cc Engine With Strong Mid-Range
Powering the Scrambler 650 is the same 652cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine seen on the Gold Star.
- Power: 45 hp @ 6,500 rpm
- Torque: 55 Nm @ 4,000 rpm
- Gearbox: 5/6-speed (market dependent)
The engine is tuned for strong low and mid-range performance, making it suitable for city riding as well as light off-road usage.
Classic Scrambler Styling
The design follows a typical modern-classic scrambler theme:
- High-mounted front fender
- Fork gaiters
- Minimal bodywork
- ‘65’ graphics on side panels
- Upright stance with a flat seat
The overall styling retains a strong British retro appeal.
Hardware Updates For Scrambler Duty
Compared to the road-focused Gold Star, the Scrambler 650 gets notable hardware changes:
- 19-inch front wheel (up from 18-inch)
- 17-inch rear wheel
- Dual-purpose tyres (India-spec CEAT Crossrad)
- Telescopic front forks (138 mm travel)
- Twin rear shock absorbers (127 mm travel)
These changes enhance its capability on rough roads and mild trails.
Features And Equipment
The motorcycle comes equipped with essential modern features:
- LED headlight and tail-light
- Optional headlight grille
- Round LCD instrument cluster
- Dual-channel ABS
The feature list remains simple, in line with its retro positioning.
Dimensions And Practicality
- Seat height: 820 mm
- Ground clearance: 187 mm
- Dry weight: 208 kg
These figures make the bike relatively accessible while offering decent ground clearance for uneven terrain.
Price And Rivals
The BSA Scrambler 650 is priced from Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to around Rs 3.41 lakh depending on colour options like:
- Raven Black
- Victor Yellow
- Thunder Grey
At this price point, it undercuts rivals like the Royal Enfield Bear 650 by a significant margin, making it a competitive option in the segment.
What It Means
With the Scrambler 650, BSA is targeting buyers looking for a retro-styled motorcycle with mild off-road capability. It complements the Gold Star 650 while offering a more rugged and versatile riding experience.
