Apple’s much-awaited foldable smartphone, widely referred to as the iPhone Fold, is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device may not be available for purchase at the same time as the Pro models.
While the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to launch in September, the foldable iPhone could ship slightly later, possibly in the following weeks or months. This suggests Apple may unveil the device during the same event but delay its market availability.
Mark Gurman highlighted that foldable smartphones are complex to manufacture, especially due to advanced display technology. He noted that such innovations often lead to delays, similar to what Apple experienced with earlier major design changes like the iPhone X.
The intricate engineering required for foldable displays is expected to be one of the key reasons behind the delayed shipping timeline of the iPhone Fold.
The iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a book-style foldable design, competing with premium foldable devices in the market. It could include a 7.8-inch internal display for a tablet-like experience and a 5.5-inch external screen for regular use.
Apple is also expected to introduce a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button, along with a premium build and dual camera setup on both front and rear sides.
Under the hood, the foldable iPhone is likely to be powered by Apple’s next-generation 2nm A20 Pro chip, paired with the company’s in-house C2 modem. This combination is expected to deliver high-end performance and improved efficiency.
These specifications place the iPhone Fold among the most powerful smartphones expected in the coming years.
The iPhone Fold is expected to come with a premium price tag. Reports suggest that the device could cost around $1,999 in the US, while the price in China may be around CNY 15,999, making it one of Apple’s most expensive smartphones.
Apple’s entry into the foldable market is expected to challenge existing players like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
With its refined hardware, software integration and premium positioning, the iPhone Fold could bring strong competition to the segment and redefine the foldable smartphone experience.
